It’s been an interesting few days on PES2008. After yesterday’s extended rant on the evils of PES scripting, I calmed down and refocused myself on maintaining my unbeaten run in the league.

That wasn’t hard. Following the European game against Barcelona that ignited my ire, I think the game had used up all its God Mode points. I strode to relatively easy victories in two league games against Zaragoza and Heracles Almelo, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively. The CPU teams just rolled over without a whimper—which is suspicious in and of itself. Almost as if, after getting all God Mode on my ass to a degree that I cannot ever remember it doing before, the CPU dialled itself right down and played dead in the league, hoping I wouldn’t notice, or would forget that I had noticed. No chance.

Still, mustn’t grumble, as they say. (I know how rich that is coming from me, don’t worry.) The two wins left me still way out in front at the top of the table. I can see Valencia starting to surge through the chasing pack. They’ll be my main rivals by mid-season, I predict.

The main European Cup group stage has begun. I’m in Group A along with PSV, Ajax, and Livorno. I should make it through this bunch without much trouble, especially the way I’ve been playing recently. I can only hope that I don’t encounter the CPU in uber-God Mode at a critical time for me. The memory of that Barcelona game is going to take a long time to fade.

My first game in Group A was against PSV. They were pretty tough. I managed a 1-1 draw thanks to some defensive discipline (for once) towards the end when PSV were really going for it, and I had wasted about 5 clear-cut chances.

Next up were Livorno—a completely unknown quantity. I’m only vaguely aware of them in real life. It was the first time I could ever remember playing them in PES. I kind of thought they’d be the minnows of the group, and so it proved. I swept to an easy 4-1 victory, and sit on top of Group A after two games played.

It looks like you won’t lose now except when PES decides to go into god mode. That always happens when you assemble a superstar squad in ML!

Played MG Online yet? By far the best online game I have ever played. I have been playing it for 6 hours today, in place of chapter 4 i may add.

  2. Not Given - I’m a few days ahead of the blog, as usual, so just wait to see how the season unfolds…

Re. MGS4, I have to finish the main game before I check out Online. I’m not really a fan of online gaming (I’ve had COD4 since it came out and not once played it online!) but I love Metal Gear too much not to at least sample it. I should finish MGS4’s story next weekend now. I planned to finish it today (day off work) but got caught up in Act 4. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I think you will enjoy Act 4…
