Say it loud: I’m analogue and I’m proud

I suppose I shouldn’t be. At least I haven’t lost; at least with a couple of wins I’ll be right up there, challenging.
One of the teams I played and drew with was Barcelona, playing in turbo-mode. I took the lead twice and was pegged back twice. It was sloppy of me. Rooney got both of their goals, curse him. He’s as special in this iteration of PES as he was in PES6, where he was all but unstoppable.
In the other game I went behind to an early Real Zaragoza goal. That happens a lot in PES2008—the CPU grabs an early goal, often straight from its kick-off, and then it’s up to you to level things up and go on to win the game. Which I often manage to do, to be fair to PES2008. I’m not claiming a grand conspiracy here, although I have said before (and will reiterate here) that there is something very, very fishy about the frequency with which the CPU scores goals straight from its kick-offs.
So the season hasn’t exactly started with a bang. Two pretty tame draws were only really enlivened by one of my goals. Here it is, a beauty scored by the emerging talent of Kim Cyun Hi:
I love me a first-time shot. For anyone who can’t or won’t watch the replay, it’s a first-time shot from an angle about 25 yards out that arcs past the keeper’s despairing dive and in off the post.
That was the goal that rescued a point for me against Zaragoza. It came in the 88th minute, just when I was starting to get desperate—starting to get that certain sinking feeling after I’d hit the post for the umpteenth time. On this occasion the ball rebounded into the net, so that was fine.
I might even have won the game in the 95th minute (or whatever it was—deep in injury time, anyway). The ball broke to Schwarz on the edge of the penalty box and there was only the keeper to beat. I thought I did everything right: I had the shot placement right, with the analogue stick tweaked toward a corner just so (yes, I’m one of those analogue stick perverts); and I feathered the shoot button just so, enough for Schwarz with his impressive shot power to smash the ball past the keeper, but not enough to send it ballooning over the bar. The shot did indeed beat the keeper—but rebounded off the post and back into his waiting arms. He cleared upfield and the whistle blew straightaway. If I miss out on the title by 2 points at the end of this season, I’ll think back to this game and that moment in particular.
I’ve checked the WEFA Championships setup. The other teams in my group are: AC Milan, Barcelona, and Spartak Moscow. Hmmm. I’m not sure yet how I feel about Barca being there. I dimly recall a long-running minor controversy on PESfan about other teams from one’s domestic Division being in the same European competition groups. I don’t think it should happen either, but it’s not on my Top 10 list of things I want to see fixed in PES2009.

I’m not so much against teams from the same League being in the same European group in game. Mainly because in game we only have 4 leagues!!!
It would seem weird to me if each group had exactly one team from each league. And there is no way it would really work anyway because of the qualifying system meaning 1 country could potentially end up with 6 representatives in the group stage
In the European cups teams are tougher. Barcelona are my worst nightmare as they simply go into godmode, plus being “scripted”. But they might not be that bad in group stage, but in the semi’s …. In the league I can manage to beat B.Munich, but in the Champions League, its a different story… same for Inter, Juve etc…
I believe you should manage to get past the group stage, but be aware of AC Milan’s Kaka’, he has a dribble speed of 99(!!!!!), but it might have dropped, seing as you are in 2015. Good luck!
stinger - quite true, there’s only a limited number of leagues to draw teams from and it is indeed barely avoidable to have domestic teams in your Euro groups. One way around this would be for Konami to add leagues to the game - okay, they haven’t got the licenses, but they could easily simulate Europe’s dozens of leagues with some time-honoured Konami jiggery-pokery. David Backham, anyone? Michael Owenn?
p.s. I checked Schwarz’s wages in my squad screen and he is indeed listed at 2200. Not the wage I offered him. Grrr.
heyndo30 - Teams certainly are tougher in the WEFA Championship, in this game more than any previous ones, I think. I’ve already played Milan (see today’s post, Fri 2nd May) and Kaka wasn’t in their team. I don’t know where he is!
