Finishing on a low Comments Off
I had to finish this write-off of a season quickly.
I had three games remaining and I lost them all in the worst way possible: miserably. I wasn’t even close to getting a result in any of them, not even any of the trusty 0-0 draws which have seen me through many a bad patch in many a Master League.
I’m getting concerned about my PES2008 incompetence. I’ve had the game for two weeks now—first the PSP version, then the PS2 version. By now I should have picked things up, mastered the basics, and be able consistently to get results.
I think I know the problem. Playing next-gen PES2008 for several months has taught me bad habits. Chief among the bad habits is impatience. When I have the ball I want to get the ball forward and score goals quickly. You can do that on next-gen PES2008. You can do that on last-gen PES2008 as well, although not in the same way, and not reliably—you have to be patient a lot of the time. I never had to be patient at all on next-gen PES2008. That game was made for scoring goals in abundance, whereas the last-gen version is—thankfully—more subtle, and more in keeping with the traditions of PES.
I have learned impatience, and I need to unlearn it.
Moving onto the main negotiation period, pre-season 2010, I’m not too bothered about getting new players, but I will get some. I think my squad is good enough to get promoted, if I can just approach the games in the right way.
