The eve of war

So here we are. It will not be long now. At some point today—Monday 10th March 2008—I will acquire the PS2 version of PES2008. Tomorrow will see my first post about it.
I’ve been playing the PSP version for over a week now. I’m in my third season in a new Master League career. Thankfully the career is transferable to the PS2 version, which I’ll be playing on my PS3. Hopefully there’ll be no difficulty with the transfer.
I’m playing as Coventry City again. (I started out on next-gen PES2008 as Coventry City.)
As ever, I took over PES United and edited everything except the badge. I changed the name to Coventry City and the kit to a lovely all-Sky Blue colour. I went with all-white for the away kit.
I started out poorly. There seems to be a pattern with me and PES2008, whatever the version. It seems to take me many seasons to get to grips with the game. It has to be said that I have really, really struggled with the Default squad this year—much more so than in previous years.
In my first season I finished a predictable rock-bottom of the eight-team Division 2. I scored a paltry, laughable, embarrassing 3 goals in 14 games. I lost one game 6-0. I didn’t have a clue. I’m just about to start my third season and I’m still in Division 2. In many ways it’s business as usual…
PES2008 on the PSP and PS2 is a very different game from the one I’ve been playing for the past 5 months. It’s like playing a brand-new release right here in March, almost the middle of the PES year. Konami should release different versions for different consoles every year. Then PES junkies could experience the real pleasure of exploring a new PES game more than once a year.
I can’t wait to get the PS2 version playing on my big screen. Next-gen PES2008 was a painful experience for me in so many ways.
I’ll be updating the side bar with the new Master League team information tomorrow. For now, here’s a taster of my latest pre-season 3 transfer activity: I got Yamada. I GOT YAMADA.

Yamada is a god for me in the PS2 version! Just get near the box and shoot!
Yamada’s still only 19 or 20 in my game, and he’s in a struggling team with lots of other youngsters, and I still haven’t adapted to this version of PES2008 yet—so all in all he hasn’t had the chance to shine, but I’m sure he will. I remember him with fondness from PES5.
I’m not long back from town and I have the PS2 version sitting on the table next to me. Only cost £5 in the end with a couple of trade-ins. Bargain.
I’m a fan of Yamada’s, but in my current Master League he has been a disappointment so far. He’s still 18 or 19, but he’s taking much longer than I remember to develop.
A few players I didn’t know, but have been a pleasant surprise are Ben Sahar (CF), Carter (CF), Feurer (WF), Ayew (DMF) and Samuels (SB).
I got Ben Sahar a couple of negotiations ago and he’s been decent so far for me—not great, but good enough. I’ll be posting my full team in the next day or two as we get going again.
