The second round of the D2 Cup was against Parma. Let me take a moment here: Parma. In the D2 Cup. When I set up this Superleague, did I know what I was letting myself in for? Yes, of course I did, and I wanted it.

I think I’ve only ever won the D2 Cup in PES a couple of times over the years. I’ve usually been knocked out of the competition before the mid-season negotiations when I acquire the last few players needed to complete a push for promotion. There’s not going to be a push for promotion this season, so I’ve got at least two more chances to win the D2 Cup in PES2008.

The first leg against Parma was at their place. I was behind twice but secured an invaluable 2-2 draw. The second leg of this tie is just a few games before the mid-season. I’ve got my eye on the Cup this season, oh yes. If nothing else, the boost to my transfer fund would come in very handy. As things stand, I’m looking at an end-of-season salary bill of 10,000-odd points. I currently have around 5000.

In the league, things are going terribly…

Torino 2-0 Singers FC

Just after I went 2-0 down, Torino broke through again and I deliberately brought down their player with a Bale-ful tackle from behind. It was a professional foul that I knew would be a red card, and it was. Bale walked, and I spent the rest of the game playing eerily well with 10 men (as usual), but couldn’t get anything back.

Singers FC 1-6 Real Zaragoza

Well, well, well. Guess who got four goals for Zaragoza in this game? Elcherino did. He was rampant for the entire game, despite me trying to kick him out of it once I realised that he was on the pitch. I tend to forget who I’ve sold my players to, but there he was, the Elch, in all his glory. Do I regret enabling Classic Players in this Master League? Yes. Yes, I do.

Parma 1-1 Singers FC

I met my cup opponents in the league, and had another tight, enjoyable game. I was 1-0 down until the 80th minute. Then I won a free kick on the left, and floated a speculative ball toward the edge of the box. Look at this odd, odd goal:

It’s odd for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it’s a side-footed flick from the edge of the box that nevertheless darts past the keeper with all the pace and placement of a regular shot. Second, the stylish flicker was none other than my young CB, Jackson.

No comment. I’ll take it.

Singers FC 1-1 Benfica

I had Postma and Valeny sent off in this one. I played with 9 men whilst 0-1 down for most of the second half. It was looking like another ignominious defeat when Caracciolo got the equaliser late on.

Another draw, then, but at least I seem to have stopped the rot. It’s not helped my league position – nothing will do that now, barring a twenty-game 5-0 winning streak from now until the end of the season. Even then I probably wouldn’t finish in the top 3. The rest of this season is all about the D2 Cup and re-orienting myself to PES2008.
